The travel industry lost a truly beloved man mentor leader and friend this past month Kevin Maguire passed away in Austin TX on Feb 21 2020 following a courageous battle with cancer Kevins legacy will live on through his two children Chris and Shannon his grandchildren and the countless other lives that he touched Kevin made an unrivaled impact on the travel industry over the course of his 25 year career He was dedicated to advancing the industry and the careers of those who shared his passion Whether connected as a buyer or a supplier Kevin always encouraged others to challenge the status quo and be fearless in their efforts to become the best versions of themselves His dedication to the industry is highlighted by the countless hours as both a volunteer leader and staff member of the Global Business Travel Association He served as a two term President Chairman Committee Chairperson and finished his service as Regional Vice President of LATAM He loved the LATAM market and was dedicated to its members and the expansion of the region Even though he admittedly spoke Tex Mex Spanish he did so with grace and respect A Tribute to Kevin Maguire Kevin was an avid sports fan and most especially of The University of Texas his alma mater During his career he served as Director of Travel for Intercollegiate Athletics at The University of Texas and within the confines of his office inside Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium he developed world class travel management practices that became standard operating procedures for both professional and collegiate sports travel He was a founding member of the GBTA Sports Committee counseling leaders in sports business and travel suppliers on the uniqueness of managing travel for athletics His influence in this arena is unparalleled Our family looks forward to building upon the foundation of our fathers legacy in many exciting ways that will each honor his passion for travel sports education and humanity said his son Chris Maguire Kevin was an icon in the travel industry and yet so much more He was a kind supportive soft spoken and witty man that was loved by all Anyone that was lucky enough to cross paths with Kevin will remember at least one time when he positively impacted their lives We will all miss him dearly but know that he will never be forgotten
